Despite the differences, degrees in Social Work and IT are a great combination when working with people and technology. I worked as an information designer in the software industry for many years before moving into teaching and research. I have had a range of teaching roles, including media entrepreneurship, and am now returning to my design roots with my work in the DMLL – focussing on how students learn with technology. I love baking and take my kindle everywhere.

Research Assistant

With a background in systems psychology and game ethnography, I work at the DMLL to playfully push the boundaries of what educational institutions think learning is. I therefore try to spend most of my time playing or making games, then writing it down so that it looks like science. When not possible, I reject reality by devouring science fiction and comics.

My son asked me not so long ago what it was that I did and why? My answer… “Well, Josh I’ve pulled photography, education and technology apart since the mid 90’s. I’m excited and inspired by the futures of photography which my recent book NEWFOTOSCAPES explores. I was thrilled to be called ‘…a quirky and eclectic thinker.’”

The lab is my answer to the ‘why’ in Josh’s question.
