The introductory exhibition for the DMLL was suitably focused on ‘disruptive’ materials. In this case it was literature in the form of books and graphic novels. Spanning decades, genres and formats the aim of the exhibition was to highlight the reasons many items were banned for a variety of reasons such as political, sexual and racial issues. The items on display covered well-known ‘classics’ such as ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ to cult graphic novels as the ‘Bone’ series.
