The Light Phaser is an accessory for Sega’s Master System. The light sensor built into the gun focusses on a small area of the screen. When the trigger is pulled the sensor & hardware built in to the console signalled where the gun was pointing when the shot was taken & registered the outcome in the game.
The Virtua Gun (branded the Stunner in the US) was the official light-gun for the ill-fated Sega Saturn. Japanese versions are black, but European & US models were blue & red, respectively. At the time, many light-gun peripherals were either brightly coloured or of a non-realistic design to assuage public concerns that they could be used by criminals.
