Microsoft Xbox 360

IMG_5195

Xbox 360 incorporated developments of successful features from its predecessor, most notably the Xbox Live service, allowing online gameplay including the creation of player communities & the purchase of games. It was also the first console to offer real HD images with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Games for the Xbox included shoot ‘em up Quake VI, third person action exclusive Gears of War, Halo 3 & numerous iterations of Call of duty.

The console wasn’t without its problems. Users complained of noise from both the disc drive & cooling fans, games that froze & the infamous ‘red rings of death’. High return rates meant Microsoft was forced to respond & extended the console’s warranty from 1 to 3 years.

  • USA 2005 – games production ongoing
  • Units sold: 58 million
  • Number of games: 800+
  • Game storage: DVD
